Because Coming Home Never Goes Out Of Style

Insights Gained, Friends Made | National Psoriasis Foundation Volunteer Conference

I can not begin to describe the incredible experience I had at the National Psoriasis Foundation’s National Volunteer conference this past week in San Francisco, held at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square.

As a psoriasis patient, I am determined to help as many as I can who have psoriasis, get to a positive point in their psoriasis journey. Having psoriasis can led to depression, isolation, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer and so much more. I want those with psoriasis to know there are so many resources at there to help you stay on a positive path.

Being involved in the NPF has opened up doors for me that I never would’ve imagined are out there—like attending this conference. I was able to sit in on informative sessions including Psoriasis and Comorbidities, Working with Your Doctor, How Your State Can Help You and so much more. I heard from world-renowned doctors and researchers on their current goals and strategies for the fiscal year and what they’re doing to find a cure for psoriasis.

I met some incredible people with LEO Pharm, Pfizer, Janssen and Amgen who are working on some great initiatives for people with psoriasis and psoriatic disease.

I met Jonathan Scott from the Atlanta Falcons who currently has psoriasis and has partnered with NPF and LEO Pharm in developing a youth program to help those with psoriasis. Learn more here.

In Finding Your Digital Voice session, I shared my insights on how I use my website to reach out to those with psoriasis and give tips on how to live a fashionable life while still having psoriasis and while being pregnant. I also gained new social media insights from the experts at Tonic Communications and Janssen. I spoke with my fellow psoriasis bloggers, Brittany of Seeing Pspots), Julie of It Just a Bad Day, Alisha of Being Me in My Own Skin, Todd of Overcoming Psoriasis, Jaime of A Spot of Hope and Jim of A Wild and Flaky Guy on their current goals for their website and ways to collaborate.

All the volunteers were acknowledged at a volunteer appreciation breakfast. With large organizations like NPF, it was nice to feel appreciated for the work that we’re doing. But I honestly wouldn’t have this opportunity if it wasn’t for NPF. For that I am extremely grateful.

I also got some great products to help with psoriasis and dry skin that I will be giving away on my blog as a gift to my readers. Look out for that in my next post! And don’t forget to sign up to receive my emails if you haven’t done so already.

I am already excited to implement the many things that I learned from this conference to make my blog better for you. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and feedback. I’ll also have my post on all my wardrobe while in San Francisco.

Don’t forget to help me along my journey to finding a cure for psoriasis by donating to my Walk to Cure psoriasis HERE. The walk is in October and any donation amount helps. I hope you help contribute to a cause that I’m incredibly passionate about.
